Sophomore Meredith Frandzen also placed in the top 10 individually after breaking 21 minutes for the first time and senior Cameron Moon took 14th. Seniors Payton Stewart, Lauren Risdal and Sydney Turk finished fourth through sixth in the North Division. The Ames girls had a lot more going on than just Turk and Helmers. Buettner-Cable, ranked second individually in 4A, broke 18 minutes with a time of 17:52.5 and Hahn, ranked sixth, clocked in at 18:09.6 for the South Division champions.Īmes' Lauren Risdal and Payton Stewart, back, both placed in the top six in the North Division at the Iowa Alliance Conference cross country meet in Marshalltown on Thursday. The top two individual times overall at the meet belonged to Des Moines Roosevelt's Adrienne Buettner-Cable and Abi Hahn. I know she didn't run as well as she wanted to, but I'm still really proud of her." Claire's been my (top) competitor for years, but even more so she's been my friend. Helmers got out a little too fast and faded a bit toward the end. I just wanted to have fun and enjoy the race and it ended up being amazing." But honestly I felt really good preparing for the race. "I was worried I wouldn't live up to the expectations of my last race. "I was actually a little nervous," Turk said. Turk, ranked eighth in 4A, crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 20.6 seconds. Sophomore Marley Turk continued her rise among the top 4A runners in the state by winning the IAC North individual championship for the Ames girls. Turk won the North Division individual championship to help the Little Cyclones bring home the team title.
